OREGON, Ill. (AP) - Prosecutors in northern Illinois say they’ve charged a Rockford man in connection with a shooting last month in rural Byron.

The Telegraph in Dixon reports Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1hsRgxk) that 20-year-old Brandon McMahon faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and other weapons charges. He’s accused of shooting 19-year-old Wyatt Ackerson of Byron at a party March 22. Ackerson remains hospitalized.

McMahon is a parolee. He has been jailed in Winnebago County since he was taken into custody a few hours after the shooting. He’s also charged with a shooting in Winnebago County.



McMahon was sentenced to three years in 2010 after being convicted on armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a gang member.

McMahon doesn’t have a listed telephone number in Rockford.
