BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has upheld a Carriere, Miss., man’s two life sentences without parole on his convictions of failing to stop a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on a police officer during a 2009 escape attempt.

Scooter Robinson was sentenced in 2012 in Hancock County as a habitual offender. Prosecutors say Robinson had six previous felony convictions.

Prosecutors say Robinson was serving a 12-year sentence for escape when he fled police custody at a Picayune hospital on Jan. 17, 2009. The assault count stemmed from his dragging an officer who had reached into Robinson’s car to get the keys at a roadblock.

The Appeals Court on Tuesday rejected Robinson’s argument - among others - that he should not have been sentenced with a jury present.
