PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of a college student in a botched attempt to steal the victim’s motorcycle.
The Philadelphia Daily News (https://bit.ly/Q6ZEXu) said 22-year-old Jeffrey Little pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and robbery on Wednesday, the day his trial was set to begin.
He was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison as part of a plea deal. If convicted of first-degree murder, he would have faced a mandatory life-without-parole sentence.
Little has been jailed since the May 2011 slaying of 23-year-old Mohan Varughese.
The victim was at his girlfriend’s house near Temple University when the gunman demanded the keys to his motorcycle and shot him when he refused. He was four days away from graduating from Penn State-Abington with a psychology degree.
