PHOENIX (AP) - A man has been convicted of first-degree murder and burglary in the 2012 killing of a woman at her Mesa home.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 33-year-old Jeremy Cardwell was found guilty Tuesday. His sentencing is scheduled for June 13.
Authorities say DNA found under a fingernail of 48-year-old Tanya Mors led to Cardwell’s arrest in January 2013.
Mors was found dead on Feb. 25, 2012 and an autopsy showed she was suffocated.
Mors’ ex-husband had been sent to prison for assaulting her and was incarcerated at the same time as Cardwell.
Court records show Cardwell met Michael Mors at a halfway house, where staff overheard Mors plotting to kill his ex-wife.
The Arizona Republic reports that Michael Mors wasn’t charged in the case and died of liver disease last June.
