HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The city of Hattiesburg has signed a two-year contract with Medical Analysis LLC of Biloxi to operate a clinic to serve municipal workers and their dependents.
The clinic will offer a broad array of services, including physicals, blood work, drug screenings, prescription dispersals and patient referrals, as well as treatment of high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and stress.
The city will pay Medical Analysis $29,000 per month. Employees, retirees and dependents covered by the city’s insurance will receive office and lab visits and medication at no charge.
Uninsured employees and their dependents will have a $20 co-pay for office visits. They will be charged cost for lab visits and medications.
The city council approved the deal Tuesday. The clinic is expected to be in operation in 90 days.
“This has been on the drawing board for the past couple of years of now,” Mayor Johnny DuPree told the Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/1i0pPcM ).
“We’ve gone and visited other areas that have similar operations, and this is a great opportunity to practice preventive medicine,” DuPree said.
Councilman Carter Carroll said the clinic will provide a cheaper health care choice for employees, who might consider seeking treatment earlier.
“We have the potential to cut down on our insurance costs as a city, but we’re also going to give the employee better health coverage, quicker health coverage and cheaper health coverage,” Carroll said.
