TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Plant City man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for running over an 80-year-old man and leaving him to die.
A judge also ordered 30-year-old Ryan S. Pottinger to spend 10 years on probation once he’s released from prison.
Authorities say Pottinger hit Santiago Sanchez-Lopes last year as he was crossing the road in front of his home. Pottinger left the scene and was arrested a few days later after deputies received tips from the public.
The Tampa Bay Times (https://bit.ly/1qrWoRU ) reports he faced 30 years in prison. He was also charged with driving with a revoked license.
The plea deal stipulates that Pottinger will not be allowed to drive once he’s on probation. He’ll be required to complete 100 hours of community service.
