EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The Eugene City Council may require businesses in the city to provide paid sick leave for their employees.

The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/1qqWFo4 ) the council is discussing the issue at Wednesday’s meeting.

The idea is pushed by Family Forward Oregon, a Portland group that says slightly more than half of the employees in the city don’t have paid sick leave.

The proposal is opposed by the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce. It says the city should not intrude in business human resource policies.
