ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two northeast Florida deputies fatally shot a man during a domestic-violence call.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies went to 66-year-old Abbott Scott Bennett’s St. Augustine home Tuesday night. Bennett’s wife told deputies that she had been abused and threatened.

Deputies say Bennett didn’t respond to their attempts at making contact. Deputies tried to subdue Bennett with a stun gun, but it didn’t work in the close quarters of the house. Following a struggle, the deputies reportedly fired on Bennett as he was reaching under a bed, where deputies believed weapons were being stored.

The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/O5iJ0u ) reports that Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.

A third deputy was present but didn’t fire. No injuries were reported to the deputies.
