CONCORD, Calif. (AP) - The lawyers for a former police officer accused of stealing painkillers from senior citizens said Tuesday that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and that he committed the crimes to satisfy his addiction to painkillers.
KTVU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1koXNey ) that 38-year-old Matthew Switzer, who resigned from the Concord Police Department on Monday, waived a court appearance Tuesday.
KTVU says he’s being held on $480,000 bail and is scheduled to return to court on April 21.
Switzer, who turned himself in Friday, is accused of using his position as a police officer to enter a senior living center to illegally obtain prescription drugs from residents, including Norco, a powerful combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone.
