INDIO, Calif. (AP) - A former Southern California woman whose 2-month-old daughter was found dead in an Arkansas storage unit has been convicted of second-degree murder.
Krissy Werntz was convicted Tuesday by a Riverside County jury. She faces 15 years to life in prison.
The 34-year-old Indiana woman was charged in the 2001 death of her daughter, Montana.
Prosecutors say Werntz and the girl’s father, Jason Hann, were living in Desert Hot Springs when he struck the child for crying and killed her.
The couple placed the body in a plastic container and moved away. The decomposed remains were found in 2002.
Hann was sentenced to death in February. He’s already serving prison time in Vermont for the 1999 killing of his 6-week-old son. The boy’s body was found in an Arizona storage unit.
