BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - The owner of a motel in Burlington remains hospitalized after being attacked and shot by three men who robbed him of an undetermined amount of money.

Burlington police Lt. Jeff Klein told The Hawk Eye (https://bit.ly/1epg2sm ) the 63-year-old owner and manager of the Lincolnville Motel was severely beaten and shot once in the leg with a handgun.

The owner, whose name wasn’t released, was awakened at 4 a.m. Monday by someone outside the motel who claimed to want to rent a room. When the owner unlocked the door, the men rushed in and attacked him.

Because of the owner’s severe injuries, he could give police only limited details about the robbery or description of the attackers. Klein says detectives will interview him again when he’s off his medication.
