SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 41-year-old man has been sent to prison in the 1994 shooting death of a West Jordan man.

Jose Leyva-Padilla was sentenced Tuesday in 3rd District Court to two to 15 years in state prison in the slaying of 35-year-old Richard Leetham.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1e8EUK6 ) Leetham drove to Salt Lake Community College on Aug. 17, 1994, but never returned home.

His body was found about a month-and-a-half later near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Police say he had been shot in the chest.

Prosecutors say Leetham’s truck turned up the next month in Tijuana, Mexico.

Leyva-Padilla reportedly admitted he drove Leetham’s vehicle to Mexico.

Marco Frescas-Hernandez testified that Leyva-Padilla bragged about killing Leetham when the two were in custody together in the fall of 1994.
