KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Knoxville Museum of Art will debut a massive sculpture designed for the facility’s Great Hall by artist Richard Jolley of Knoxville.
The first public showing of “Cycle of Life: Within the Power of Dreams and the Wonder of Infinity” is scheduled for May 4.
At 100-feet long and 12-feet high, the sculpture will be one of the largest figurative glass-and-steel assemblages in the world. The art work weighs close to seven tons.
The piece is made from thousands of individual cast and blown-glass elements and unfolds as an epic narrative of the successive phases of life.
The commission coincides with the museum’s 25th anniversary.
