WAYCROSS, Ga. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials in southeastern Georgia say charges have been filed against the father of a girl who was accidentally shot by her teenage brother.
Authorities have said the 10-year-old girl was fatally shot by her 15-year-old brother Friday afternoon while he unloaded a 12-gauge shotgun.
Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal tells the Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/R1ggkx) the girl’s father, 33-year-old Joshua Jowers, is a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning firearms.
Royal says authorities seized additional guns from the home and have charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Royal says Jowers was arrested Sunday and was booked into the county jail on $500,000 bond.
Royal says the department’s findings will be given to the district attorney’s office. It’s unclear if Jowers has an attorney.
