DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A power outage at the Iowa Capitol Tuesday morning shut down chamber voting machines, microphones and cameras and disabled the Legislature’s website until about 9 a.m.
Power went out around 7:30 a.m. plunging the Capitol into darkness. Power was on again in about 10 minutes. By 8 a.m. elevators, some doors and other electricity-powered equipment were coming back into service but not completely functional.
A spokesman for the Department of Administrative Services says there was an interruption in power during routine testing of the Capitol complex emergency power system.
The House convened at 8:30 but quickly stood at ease. The Senate gaveled in shortly after 9 a.m. and by then equipment on the Senate floor was working.
