PEKIN, Ill. (AP) - Students at Altman School in Pekin will soon get to know the man represented by a bronze bust that now sits in the school’s entry way.
Former astronaut and Pekin native Scott Altman will visit the school on Friday for to dedicate the bust.
The Pekin Daily Times (https://bit.ly/1jobeHY ) reports that the bust went on display at the Tazewell County Museum as part of an Altman exhibit in 2011.
But the museum is working on a new facility so the bust has been moved to where school principal Josh Norman says it can be seen by as many people as possible.
Altman commanded and piloted four space shuttle missions and was a Navy fighter pilot. He graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1977.
