ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers have released the name of a trooper involved in a struggle with the 24-year-old Homer man who reportedly grabbed the officer’s gun and fatally shot himself in the head.

KTUU (https://is.gd/Nnh5ds) says David Chaffin is assigned to the Anchor Point post.

Aaron Michael Rael-Catholic died at the scene Wednesday night.

Troopers say Chaffin was responding to a call from a woman reporting her ex-boyfriend was assaulting her at her home near Homer. Troopers say the woman left in her car, followed by Rael-Catholic in another car, which he used to ram her vehicle.

Troopers say Chaffin used pepper spray and a stun gun as he tried to arrest Rael-Catholic. Troopers say the two ended up wrestling on the ground, and that’s when Rael-Catholic grabbed the officer’s gun.
