GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - The number of people requiring housing services in Josephine County has spiked, particularly among youth and single-father populations.

The Daily Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1e5M55w ) the uptick comes with the caveat that yearly homeless surveys reflect homelessness at a point in time, and numerical changes may not reflect the degree of the change.

Still, those who work with the homeless report seeing more younger men, and more youths overall.

There are no shelters in the area that permit men to stay with children.

Kelly Wessels of United Community Action Network says that rule presses more men to opt for remaining homeless and keeping their family intact, rather than living in separate shelters from their children.
