CONROE, Texas (AP) - Authorities north of Houston say a 34-year-old man has been shot and killed by deputy constables when they confronted him inside a Montgomery County home.

The shooting happened in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday as the deputies tried to serve a felony warrant at the home near Conroe (KAHN’-roh).

The Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office identified the shooting victim Monday as Wesley Maloy White.

A statement issued by the office says constables received permission from the homeowner to enter the residence. White was found inside and authorities say he approached them with a firearm, prompting constables to open fire out of concern for their safety.

White was pronounced dead on the scene.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
