WALLACE, W.Va. (AP) - Animal control officers have seized about 200 rabbits from a house in Wallace following a complaint about their conditions.

Harrison County humane officer Lt. Greg Scolapio tells media outlets that about 70 rabbits were removed from the residence on Friday. Weather conditions postponed the removal of the remaining rabbits until this week.

Scolapio says someone complained about sickly rabbits after buying one. He says the rabbits were being kept in cages that hadn’t been cleaned for months.

The woman who owned the rabbits voluntarily surrendered them.

Scolapio says the rabbits appear to be healthy and are available for adoption at Harrison County Animal Control.
