ATLANTA (AP) - Firefighters near Atlanta believe their personal cars are being targeted by thieves while they’re away fighting fires and responding to emergencies.
Wayne Hines of the Fulton County Professional Firefighters’ Union says the cars, parked at fire stations just southwest of Atlanta, are “just open, easy targets.”
Police said thieves have forced car locks open and smashed windows.
WSB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1slOPzH) that thieves struck Station 5 on Bethsaida Road a few days ago, when firefighters were out on a call for three hours.
In November, burglars broke into nearly a dozen cars parked outside Station 5; Station 1 on Welcome All Road; and Station 7 on Buffington Road.
Fulton County Fire Chief Larry Few has told WSB-TV that he’s working with police and trying to increase security outside the fire stations.
