Ohio man awakes to burglar smothering him

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Police say an elderly Ohio man awoke as a burglar was trying to smother him with a pillow.

Police tell WHIO-TV (https://bit.ly/1spdXFL) that the 82-year-old Dayton homeowner was able to break free during the Saturday night burglary and scratch his attacker in the face.

Police say the suspect fled.

Police later arrested 39-year-old John Riggs Jr. and say he was bleeding from a facial wound.

Police say that Riggs told them he went to the victim’s house because he had been told the man had a lot of money lying around.

Riggs was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
