BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Spring has arrived in North Dakota, and that means load restrictions on roads.

The state Transportation Department says load limits will be in effect Monday on all state and federal highways in North Dakota. The seasonal load restrictions typically are first implemented in the southwest and then extended north and east as spring progresses.

The weight restrictions guard against damage to roads made susceptible by the spring thaw. They’re lifted when roadbeds have stabilized enough to handle normal traffic.
