BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - New London residents are getting ready to dedicate their new veterans memorial nearly four years after planning for it began.

The Hawk Eye reports (https://bit.ly/1hQTq8F ) New London Veteran Memorial Park and its tributes to veterans will be celebrated on Saturday.

The part features six granite tablets surrounding a monument to fallen soldiers in the form of a helmet balanced on the stock of a rifle.

The tablets have 250 names inscribed on them to honor veterans who lived in New London. Both living and deceased veterans are included.

The town raised $90,000 for the memorial and relied on volunteer labor to do much of the work. Part of why it took so long to complete was the delay in waiting for a volunteer contractor to demolish a house.
