CENTER POINT, Ala. (AP) - Jefferson County sheriff’s officials are investigating the death of a man who was shot outside an apartment complex in Center Point.
Sheriff’s spokesman Randy Christian said in a statement that 42-year-old Rickey Jones was upset that his wife’s 25-year-old cousin was visiting to do laundry on Saturday night. Authorities say she told Jones that her cousin had permission to be there and would leave when he was finished.
Authorities say Jones began kicking the younger man’s car and stabbed him in the neck when he came outside to try stopping him. Christian says the two began fighting and Jones was eventually shot.
Sheriff’s officials say charges haven’t been filed. The younger man’s identity hasn’t been released and authorities say he’s been taken in for questioning.
