PELHAM, N.Y. (AP) - Police evacuated a few homes in a suburban New York City town after a man cleaning the basement of his deceased brother’s home discovered two pounds of dynamite.
WABC-TV reports Saturday (https://bit.ly/QR3SDy ) the man called 911 after finding the explosives.
The station says Westchester County Bomb Squad officers removed the old dynamite and took it away. A few houses in the area were evacuated as a precaution but residents were later allowed to return to their homes.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the dynamite was in the Pelham house or how it got there.
Pelham is about 15 miles north of midtown Manhattan.
