UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - Prince George’s County Police are investigating after a police-involved shooting in which an armed man died.

The police department says it happened Saturday just before 4 a.m. on Marlboro Pike at Lee Jay Drive. Police say after officers and witnesses heard a shot fired in the area. Officers responded and saw a man leaving the area on foot.

Police say two officers approached the man and one noticed the man reaching for a handgun in his waistband. The officer fired multiple times, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at Prince George’s Hospital Center.



Police identified the man Saturday evening as 24-year-old Robert Antonio Jones of Forestville

Police say they recovered the man’s gun from the scene. The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on routine administrative leave.
