PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) - The Port Townsend Paper Corp. has dropped plans to upgrade the mill’s wood-waste burner to generate electricity.
Company President Roger Hagan told the Peninsula Daily News (https://bit.ly/1gtUf2d) it’s not a financially viable project, with the expiration of a federal biomass tax credit and relatively cheaper natural gas.
Environmental groups opposed the $54 million project, saying that burning wood to generate electricity causes too much pollution.
