MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges he assaulted a police officer.
A Nassau County judge on Friday also ordered 34-year-old Christopher Sargeant to pay $87,446 in restitution to cover the injured officer’s medical bills.
Sargeant pleaded guilty in January to assault.
Police say that in March 2012, Sargeant was seen throwing rocks at cars. He fled to a nearby home and was confronted by officers.
An unidentified officer was cut by Sargeant’s knife during the confrontation. The officer later recovered.
