BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - A man has been jailed on charges he stole a fire chief’s official sport-utility vehicle then crashed it during a joyride.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 34-year-old Jason Wenrick, of Bellefonte.

State police say residents identified Wenrick as the suspect after police publicized a surveillance photo of him earlier this week.

Police say Wenrick stole the vehicle from Bellefonte’s fire chief, who had parked the vehicle - locked but with the keys in the console - in his driveway.

The theft reportedly occurred about 4 a.m. Sunday. Police recovered the 2004 Ford Explorer crashed and abandoned on a rural road in a neighboring Spring Township later that day.

Wenrick faces a preliminary hearing April 16 on charges including receiving stolen property and driving with a suspended license.
