URBANA, Ill. (AP) - An eastern Illinois man faces a life sentence after he was convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing three boys left in his care.
A Champaign County jury on Friday found 38-year-old Lyn Niemann of Thomasboro guilty of eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. He will be sentenced May 16 but Judge Heidi Ladd said state sentencing laws require the life sentence. Thomasboro is 10 miles north of Urbana.
According to The News-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1oyLttU ) two of the boys were children of his fiance. The third was a friend’s child.
Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Bennett said the boys’ accounts closely matched and included details unlikely to be made up. Niemann was arrested in March 2013.
Defense attorney Janie Miller-Jones suggested the boys’ accusations were imagined.
