JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A substitute teacher from south Georgia will spend 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to a string of robberies.

Authorities say 26-year-old Eddie Battles of Valdosta, Ga., pleaded guilty to 11 charges in a series of robberies at Dollar General stores in south Georgia and northern Florida.

A judge sentenced him to 16 years in federal prison during a hearing this week in Jacksonville, Fla.

Along with his job as a substitute teacher, Battles worked as an assistant manager at a Dollar General store in Lake Park, Ga. It was the first store robbed in late 2011.

Both Battles and his brother pleaded guilty in a series of holdups that continued until the two were arrested in April 2012.
