JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Supporters of increased funding for education plan to rally on the steps of the state Capitol on Friday.
Great Alaska Schools is calling for an increase in the per-pupil funding formula known as the base student allocation. The group, in a release, says it is urging the Legislature to pass an increase in the allocation of $650 over three years. The group says this will help schools avoid staff cuts and catch up with rising operational costs.
A bill scheduled for the House floor Friday proposes an increase of about $300 over three years.
