CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the 2008 stabbing death of his 9-year-old daughter.
Richard Lyon was sentenced Friday for the death of Mya Lyons.
Cook County jurors convicted him in January after prosecutors said he stabbed the girl 30 times and dumped her body in a lot to hide the slaying.
He initially told police the third-grader wandered away from home. He claimed he later found the girl in an alley after driving around to look for her.
Lyons had pleaded not guilty. His public defender suggested the girl was killed by a burglar.
Prosecutors say forensic evidence showed Mya Lyons was stabbed inside the van
