BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 5th grade student at Capital Elementary School in Baton Rouge has been arrested after a deputy found an unloaded, .45 caliber weapon in his book bag.

A student notified a school administrator that a classmate had a gun and the weapon was found Friday afternoon in the 10-year-old boy’s bag.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says the gun was listed as stolen. The student told investigators he found the gun at home.

The student faces a charge of illegal possession of a firearm on a school campus. His name was not released because of his age. The sheriff’s office did not know if he has an attorney.
