SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a man who beat a 15-year-old girl to death, then dismembered and buried her body nearly 15 years ago.

The high court overturned Cody Lynn Nielsen’s kidnapping conviction based on problems it found with the merger of various charges at his Cache County trial in 2003.

But Assistant Attorney General Karne Klucznik told The (Logan) Herald Journal (https://tinyurl.com/lvlfqnp ) that Tuesday’s ruling backing the murder conviction means he still will serve the rest of his life in prison.

Nielsen was convicted of aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and desecration of a human body in the 2000 death of Trisha Ann Autry.

Cache County Attorney James Swink says the ruling will bring some closure to the family and community.
