CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Investigators say a woman told them that she’s the mother of a newborn found in a shallow grave in St. Clair County by a person doing yard work.
Clay Township police Chief Don Drake says in a statement Wednesday that the woman approached the department this week, giving specific details of what happened.
The statement says the department is working to confirm details, but it considers the information to be credible.
The remains of the child were found about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Autopsy results haven’t yet been released. Prosecutors are expected to review the case.
Clay Township is located about 35 miles northeast of Detroit. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the police department.
