TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A new lead pastor has been named at a Tulsa megachurch that was beset by allegations of sexual assault two years ago.

Victory Christian Center announced over the weekend that the Rev. Paul Daugherty will become the church’s new lead pastor. Paul Daugherty is the son of Sharon Daugherty, who founded the church 33 years ago with her husband, Billy Joe Daugherty.

Sharon Daugherty has led the church since her husband’s death in 2009.

Paul Daugherty tells the Tulsa World (https://bit.ly/1fycZUp ) that he’s honored and excited to take the lead as pastor.

In 2012, five Victory Christian Center employees were charged with misdemeanors for not promptly reporting a rape that occurred in a church stairwell. Ex-janitor Chris Denman has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for the attack.
