NOVI, Mich. (AP) - A suburban Detroit judge is resuming a court hearing to determine if a 28-year-old former Marine will stand trial for the death of a neighbor, who was shot during a dispute over a lost dog.
A medical examiner says 45-year-old Ed Criswell of Walled Lake quickly bled to death in December. Judge Dennis Powers already has heard Charles Simkins’ taped confession to police.
The hearing resumes Wednesday in Novi District Court.
Simkins was looking for his dog when he went to Criswell’s house a few doors away. They began fighting within a few minutes, and Criswell was shot in a critical leg artery from behind.
The 28-year-old Simkins told police he didn’t know Criswell. He’s recorded saying he regrets not calling animal control.
