UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-year-old boy has died from injuries suffered when he was hit by a car while retrieving a ball that had rolled into a central New York street.

Police in Utica say Zachary Htoo chased a ball into a street around 5 p.m. Monday. Officers a car stopped and pulled over, but another car pulled around the stopped vehicle and struck the boy before he made it back to the sidewalk.

He was taken to a Utica hospital, then transferred to a Syracuse hospital, where he died Tuesday morning.

Police say it appears the driver that hit the boy wasn’t at fault.

The boy’s parents are refugees from Burma.
