MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - A small earthquake has jiggled the coast northwest of Malibu.

The Southern California Seismic Network says the 10:08 a.m. Thursday temblor had a magnitude of 3.1 and was centered just northwest of Leo Carrillo State Beach. The quake occurred at a depth of 7 miles.

The area is largely undeveloped wilderness, with steep slopes and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains rising from the coast highway.
