WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) - The Richland County sheriff says a 14-year veteran of the department has been demoted for mishandling the case of a missing juvenile.

Sheriff Larry Leshovsky tells the Wahpeton Daily News (https://bit.ly/ObQFms ) that Jerry Arneson failed to follow procedure on the case and was asked to voluntarily resign his badge.

Leshovsky says Arneson was offered a position as a corrections officer and accepted that position.
