MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A plan to move the Ward County juvenile detention center could be more costly than once thought.
County commissioners learned Tuesday that remodeling a space in the lowest level of the courthouse could cost about $1.8 million. The commissioners were expecting costs to be about $800,000.
The Minot Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1hizzdN ) an architect on the project said security measures are more costly than anticipated.
City officials want to move juvenile offenders housed in an eight-bed unit in the jail father away from adult inmates.
Commissioner Alan Walter said he wanted more information before the commission moved ahead with the relocation.
Walter said getting costs closer to $1 million would be acceptable.
