INKSTER, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say no one was injured following an apartment fire in suburban Detroit that gutted the three-story building and displaced about 20 residents.

The fire was reported about 1:45 a.m. Thursday in Inkster, forcing residents to evacuate the 12-unit Dartmouth Square Apartments.

Manager Sonia Manners tells WWJ-AM that the fire apparently started when a resident violated the rules and used a barbecue on a third-floor balcony Wednesday.

Manners says the charcoal apparently rekindled overnight.

The American Red Cross and Salvation Army responded to assist fire crews and residents.
