BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Lee County man convicted in a series of north Alabama bank robberies has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 39-year-old Jimmy Dawson Cunningham Jr. of Salem was sentenced to eight years and four months for five bank robberies between Jan. 3 and Jan. 14, 2013.

Prosecutors say Cunningham robbed banks in Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Cullman and Pelham.

A federal judge ordered Cunningham to pay more than $14,700 in restitution to four of the five banks he robbed. Authorities say money that was stolen from the Cullman bank was recovered afterward.
