MILTON, Fla. (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union and the Florida Justice Institute are helping a partially paralyzed man pursue legal action against the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution in Milton.
The groups announced Tuesday that they were supporting a lawsuit inmate Richard Allen Jackson filed in April 2013.
The ACLU said in press release that 56-year-old Jackson is partially paralyzed in his lower limbs. They say prison officials refused to let Jackson use a wheelchair, which required him to drag himself with his arms and hands.
The Northwest Florida Daily News (https://bit.ly/1h6Xh2y ) reports warden Richard Comerford declined comment because the case is pending.
Jackson has been incarcerated since 1993. He’s serving a 25-year sentence for an indecent assault on a child under 16.
