SEATTLE (AP) - Washington state ferry fares go up Thursday.

The peak season surcharge goes into effect on May 1 and lasts through Sept. 30.

In addition, the Transportation Department says ferry fares are increasing 2 percent for passengers and 2.5 percent for vehicles and drivers.
