IOWA FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Officials say five officers were justified in shooting at a man during a standoff in Iowa Falls.
The Iowa Attorney General’s Office says the use of deadly force by officers during the incident on April 17 was justified and reasonable.
Authorities say 25-year-old Leighton C. Fitz was believed to be suicidal when he exited a private home wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying weapons. Officers say he reached for a weapon before he was shot and killed.
Additional weapons and ammunition were found inside the home. Fitz also made threats to authorities on social media.
Des Moines television station KCCI reports (https://bit.ly/1pLPNGI ) an investigation report shows there’s no evidence that Fitz exited the home willing to submit to law enforcement.
