MARKHAM, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago police officer has pleaded not guilty to a reckless conduct charge after a 95-year-old World War II veteran was shot with a bean-bag gun and later died.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office says Craig Taylor entered his plea Tuesday.
The Park Forest police officer was charged this month in the 2013 death of John Wrana. Prosecutors say Taylor was one of several officers attempting to take Wrana into custody at an assisted living facility after staff reported that he was threatening other residents and had struck an emergency worker with his cane.
They allege that Taylor shot Wrana five times with the bean-bag gun. The county medical examiner’s office says Wrana died of internal bleeding and blunt force trauma.
