NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD is looking for the thieves who have gained access to businesses by cutting through walls from adjoining empty retail space.

WABC-TV (https://bit.ly/1tYZDVt ) says the burglars hammered a hole in the wall from the empty space next to My Deli in Inwood.

Police say they removed everything they could get their hands on including the security system.

The store owner says the thieves stole thousands of dollars after using a crowbar to open the cash machine. They also removed thousands from the cash register.

Police say similar robberies have occurred in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan.
